“Boston’s Best Places for Guitar Lessons“

Derrick Campbell is now offering in person lessons at a new location in the Swarthmore and Springfield area.

Derrick Campbell, Guitar Teacher

I’ve been playing the guitar for twenty-eight years now, and studied with a variety of teachers including Bob Ferguson and Michael Harris. I began teaching guitar lessons when I was a sophomore at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. I graduated with a B.A. in Communications and then moved to the Boston area in 1997 and began working full time as a guitar teacher within a few months. Since then, I’ve also played in a variety of original and cover bands and written a number of songs of my own.

In 2023, I started performing with an acoustic duo called the Chip Cofone Band and have been doing 1-2 shows a month in Springfield, PA.  Later that year I began playing with a classic rock band called the Garage Bandits that plays 3-7 shows per month in the Philly suburbs and surrounding area.

In 2020, I contacted Ted Norris, the singer in an original band I was in some years back. We started collaborating on recording the songs we did back then and also wrote some new songs. He’s in Virginia, so we used Garageband projects to record the basic tracks, and then hired session drummers and mixing engineers from Airgigs.com.

As of September 2023, I have resumed doing in-person lessons and am offering private guitar lessons at a new location in the Swarthmore/Springfield area. I am still offering lessons through Zoom, Facetime, or other video conferencing tools.

Starting Monday, October 14th, I will be teaching guitar class for beginners at the Community Art Center in Wallingford, located very close to Swarthmore.
This class is for total beginners who have never even seen a guitar, much less played one. I also teach a little theory during the class relating to how to tune the guitar, and talk a little bit about reading the rhythmic aspect of standard notation.
Classes will run for six weeks, and the cost is $195.
Interested in lesson but are not local?
I also offer online guitar lessons via Zoom, Facetime, and Google Meet.
