Derrick Campbell is now offering in person lessons at a new location in the Swarthmore and Springfield area.
I’ve been playing the guitar for twenty-eight years now, and studied with a variety of teachers including Bob Ferguson and Michael Harris. I began teaching guitar lessons when I was a sophomore at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. I graduated with a B.A. in Communications and then moved to the Boston area in 1997 and began working full time as a guitar teacher within a few months. Since then, I’ve also played in a variety of original and cover bands and written a number of songs of my own.
In 2023, I started performing with an acoustic duo called the Chip Cofone Band and have been doing 1-2 shows a month in Springfield, PA. Later that year I began playing with a classic rock band called the Garage Bandits that plays 3-7 shows per month in the Philly suburbs and surrounding area.
In 2020, I contacted Ted Norris, the singer in an original band I was in some years back. We started collaborating on recording the songs we did back then and also wrote some new songs. He’s in Virginia, so we used Garageband projects to record the basic tracks, and then hired session drummers and mixing engineers from Airgigs.com.
Starting Monday March 24th, I will be offering group guitar classes at the Community Art Center in Wallingford. The class starts at 7pm and is for beginners – total beginners who have never even seen a guitar, much less played one. This class will teach students how to read standard notation and play simple melodies on the guitar. There are two other versions of the beginner classes that I offer that focus on chords, so once you’ve taken this class, you can also enroll in those during the summer session.
The class will run for 6 weeks and the cost is $195. You can sign up for the class by clicking here.
